Acne is a common skin condition that affects young adults and adolescents. Up to 85% of adolescents have some form of acne and approximately 12% of young women acquire this condition. Acne is an inflammatory process that can affect the follicles of the skin. Key factors that cause acne can be due to hormones, genetics, as well as diet.
Here at DC&G MedSpa there are two treatments we prefer to offer for acne issues:
- Chemical Peels with Extraction Treatments
We start out using a mild chemical peel to slough off the dead skin and oils. Next, we extract any blackheads and clogged pores. High frequency can be done on the skin to heat up the sebaceous glands and eliminate acne-causing bacteria. As your treatments progress and the skin can tolerate it, the chemical peels can be elevated to a more aggressive level.
- Acne Facials
This is an individualized treatment of various products depending on the severity of the acne. This facial also includes extractions and high frequency.
We recommend for all our acne patients our Retinol 20 Renew Pads. These pads can be used nightly or every other night. Retinol helps regulate the skin cell turnover to a normal rate. This helps to keep the pores from clogging and target acne before it starts.
Cleansing with the EltaMD® Foaming Cleanser is a great way to cleanse the skin without over-drying. The gentle enzyme in it helps to slough off dead skin cells.
DC&G Moisture Replenish Cream is an oil free moisturizer to appropriately hydrate the skin without clogging the pores.
For our more severe acne patients we recommend the DC&G Clear Pads. These pads contain 1% Salicylic Acid which helps keep pores from clogging and provides a smoother, brighter complexion. Additionally, DC&G also offers a Spot Zapper which contains 2% Salicylic Acid in it. It is designed to dab on those few blemishes to help clear them up faster.
For those with extremely oily skin that do not like moisturizing creams, DC&G Hyaluronic Peptide Complex is a lightweight, serum-like formula that will hydrate the skin and address inflammation.
Our multifaceted approach utilizes products, treatment and the option of various medications both topical and systemic, to help decrease and/or alleviate your acne concerns.
